While many of my dahlias are grown with cut flowers in mind, collarettes and anemones are grown with the garden ecosystem in mind.

They’re one of those varieties I always want to make room for. Their open centers provide easy access for pollinators, and I love having flowers that support the bees and keep them coming back throughout the season.

I may not cut many of these for bouquets, but I love seeing them covered in visitors. That’s just as rewarding, and a beautiful reminder that a flower’s value isn’t always measured by how well it fills a vase. Sometimes it’s measured by the life it supports. 🌸

Besides “is this gall?” and “is this tuber too small?”, one of the top questions in Facebook groups and grower conversations is how to properly support and stake dahlias.

I had a few customers from this year’s sale who are new to dahlias, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to document the method I use!

I started supporting my dahlias this way last year after learning this style from Erin at @muddyhillflowerfarm

This year, I’m using the same method for my snapdragon and zinnia beds too!

Today officially marks the last day the doggies are my full-time errand companions.

We dropped off more inventory at Esa’s Dirty Plant Mix, picked up some tubers/delivered a candle, did some Amazon returns, and squeezed in a quick appointment.

We were way too early for the appointment, so we grabbed a Coke and a fry from McDonald’s to share while looking at the foothills and judging people’s driving. 😆

This weekend, the car gets a big clean and the car seat goes in. I’m so excited because it makes everything feel very real that baby T could be here so soon… but also incredibly emotional thinking about how much they love their car rides with me.

It honestly breaks my heart a little knowing their lives are about to change too. But I know they’re going to love their little human so, so much, and eventually they’ll understand he was always meant to be part of our pack. 🩵

Hank is happy any day the doors open, the forecast says “no rain,” and he can roll around between supervising the neighborhood from the fence windows 🐾

I swear it was just winter, and I had fully accepted skipping seed starting this year with a June baby on the way…
and then I blinked, and it’s dahlia planting time 🌱🥔

Before we know it, baby T and the flowers will be here… growing and blooming together 🩵

This weekend I started giving my tubers little field trips outside the greenhouse, and I’m counting down to next weekend when overnight temps hit the 50s and they can finally stay out.

One thing I always do before planting is map everything out with bamboo stakes with tags zip tied on. It helps me:
1) space each tuber properly
2) plan beds by color (and height, so taller varieties don’t block the shorter ones as the sun moves throughout the day)
3) keeping the variety’s tag along the edge of the bed helps me to be able to easily confirm blooms and adjust anything that’s off
No scrambling later trying to tag plants at the base before digging in fall/winter 🙃

We added 4 more dahlia beds this year and will be planting 232 tubers across 140 varieties (!!)

What an incredibly full, emotional, and unforgettable weekend 🩵

Our long-awaited baby shower finally came, surrounded by family, love, and a growing (and very real) excitement for baby T’s arrival in June. At the same time, I’d be lying if I said it was easy to hold the joy of this baby while also carrying the loss of our first. This weekend marked Myles’ first heavenly birthday, and that weight was there too.

But there was something really beautiful in being able to hold both… celebrating, remembering, feeling it all. I’m so grateful for the people who allowed me to have both my joyful moments and my emotional ones, without trying to blend or fix them. That meant more than I can put into words, and let my heart feel what it needed to, easily and gently.

We also got to spend special time for my sister-in-law’s birthday. Someone who has always felt like the sister I would’ve chosen for myself. Strong, fearless, and just the kind of person you’re lucky to have in your corner 😎 (and as Rey would tell you… we almost needed to call the fire department to get my preggo belly out of a booth at dinner)

And my cousin Tamara, who shares her birthday with her, made the weekend even more special. From before the shower to long after, Saturday was filled with laughter, comfort, and those simple, grounding moments of being together—kids playing everywhere, conversations flowing, and just soaking in time with family.

And to end it all… the most incredible celebration. A HUGE milestone! FIVE years cancer-free for my amazing sister-in-law. No more regular scans, just freedom, strength, and so much to celebrate. I don’t think there’s a better way we could’ve closed out such a meaningful weekend.

My heart is so full. So grateful for this time together, even if it never feels like enough ♥️🫶🏼

From this day forward, I promise:
no more bins of potting soil in the living room… and no more filling trays and pots inside the house 🙈🌱

So grateful for my husband’s love, skill, and patience in building this beauty ♥️🥰

And extra thankful he didn’t let us impulse-buy it the second Costco had it… because we scored Death Star savings instead 😏

One of my favorite things about supporting small farms and hobby growers over the years has been the personal touches. Not the fancy printed extras that get tossed, but the little things that make you feel truly appreciated as a customer.

So I wanted to pay that forward in my own way. Every order includes a brief handwritten thank-you note and a free tuber. And for a few orders that completely shocked me (10+ tubers!), I’m adding in a 3 oz Volcano Glow candle as an extra thank you.

Baby boy expected in June 🩵🌈

How special it is that we got to bring the exact nursery to life that we had imagined during our first pregnancy that began back in 2024. So many things in this room, and even hanging in the closet, were originally bought with the intention of welcoming that little boy. Now they will continue on with his baby brother this year.

It’s an odd mixture of sadness and joy.

But seeing everything come together has been incredibly special. Somehow the room turned out exactly how I imagined it… maybe even better. We still have a few small things left to finish, but it finally feels ready, and not just a dream in my head.

Shortly after we wrapped up all the medical care following Myles’ passing, Seattle Reproductive Medicine reached out for a six-month check-in. We shared everything that had happened, and together made a plan to start trying again when we felt ready.
This time we decided to lean a little more on science than we did before. Our first pregnancy only had some medicinal assistance, but this time we took a more guided path.

At “graduation” from the clinic, they gave us this little onesie. We’re hoping to send them a photo this summer of our little guy wearing it. 🫶🏼

On the way home from our very first ultrasound of our rainbow baby, when he was just a tiny embryo, we were welcomed with a double rainbow in the sky.

It immediately felt like a sign from Myles.
A reminder that he’s still with us.

We’ve finally started moving past the fear and nervousness that come after loss, and have begun sharing that we’re expecting.

So many of you here supported us through the last pregnancy, through the loss of Myles, and through the months that followed. Your kindness and thoughts truly meant more than you know.

This little boy will grow up knowing about his big brother.
How loved he is.
And how he helped bring us to this moment.

One watching from above, and one we’ll finally get to hold. 🩵🌈
